Can I say that it’s so nice to meet you?! I am Monique, half of a dream team (if I do say so myself) of accidental homesteaders that found our way to where we are after numerous twists and turns from the heat of Austin, Texas through the San Juan mountains in southwestern Colorado.

Two years ago we made the decision to leave our happy little life in Austin, Texas for a simpler, outdoor life in Telluride, Colorado.  Little did we know, simpler was an illusion of the naive, only possible by not knowing the reality of a path we had not yet walked. After a year of living in an idyllic mountain town, we were (along with many others) in an uncertain housing situation, could not afford anything near town, and badly needed our own home to bring peace, sanctuary, and stability to our lives. And then came our would-be home in Norwood, approximately 45 minutes away. It sits on 40 acres, is fully off grid, and 20 years old. Which means us former city folk are now quickly learning how to navigate solar inverters, water hauling, and home renovations while prioritizing being sustainable, budget conscious, doing high quality work, and adding just a little bit of fancy to things – all while keeping our full-time jobs and protecting the time to be active and enjoy this absolutely dreamy natural environment.
